What is Key Club?
Key Club is an international community service organization dedicated to making local communities and the world a better place through frequent service projects and fundraisers. Key Club is set apart from other community service clubs because it is run completely by students, providing a valuable experience of responsibility and self-management.
Why is it called Key Club?
The name “Key Club” was given to the original club in Sacramento High School in 1925 when it was formed by the key boys of the school, who were dedicated to serving the school and creating a better school spirit.
Do I have to be an official member to attend Key Club events and receive service hours?
No, anyone can attend events and will receive hours recorded on our hours spreadsheet (see “hours” tab) upon confirmation of attendance.
I paid dues a long time ago but still haven’t received my official membership card and certificate, when will I get these?
Unfortunately, membership cards and certificates take a long time to come in the mail due to the fact that they are managed by Key Club International, which processes hundreds of thousands of members every year. Our school Key Club and its board have no control over when we receive these items and will notify you immediately when your card and certificate are available for pick-up.
What's the deal with key club structure?
Key Club International is composed of approximately 5,000 clubs in 37 countries. Each club is part of a division, which make up regions, which make up districts, which make up Key Club International (club->division->region->district
->international). Each club has a president and set of officers, each division is led by a lieutenant governor, and each of the 36 districts has a governor and a district board elected at the annual district convention. Canyon Crest Academy Key Club is 1 of 9 clubs in Division 37 South (D37S).

How often are there service project opportunities?
CCA Key Club typically holds 1-4 volunteering opportunities every month. These events can range from fundraisers and beach cleanups to helping out at marathons and festivals. If you have a preference in types of events, feel free to contact the board and we will make our best effort to find events you will enjoy.
What are my obligations as a member?
Official members must pay dues every school year to maintain their official member status. As of the 2017-2018 school year, our club will also require every official member to attend at least one service event (not including restaurant fundraisers) in order to validate their official member status. We believe a part of what makes our club great is the ability of members to attend events and meetings as often or as little as their schedule allows. As of the 2016-2017 school year, a minimum of 15 hours is required in order to run in the spring election for board members. Newly elected board members must complete at least 30 hours of community service before the end of the school year in order to maintain their position. Although not required, 20-30 hours of service over the course of the school year is recommended for general members, and the more the better!
What are the benefits of becoming an official member?
Official members who have paid dues will be entered into the official Key Club database and receive an official member card and certificate, be eligible for club, division, and district elections, and be able to apply for college scholarships exclusive to Key Club members.
Is there a required number of service hours I need to meet?
There is no set hours requirement, but every official member must attend at least one volunteering event during the year (restaurant fundraisers do not count for this requirement). Members running for a board position are required to complete at least 15 hours of service before elections and 30 hours before the end of the school year if they are elected.
How can I get more involved in Key Club?
To get more involved, you can suggest events and fundraisers to the board, attend as many events as possible, run for a position on the board, and attend district events, such as our monthly Division Council Meetings (DCMs). Connecting with members from other school clubs is also a great way to form strong friendships and foster inter-connectivity within the division, allowing for more effective service to the community.
What are Key Club’s preferred charities?
Our preferred charities are UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Children’s Miracle Network, which we work year round to support. Although these are our typical charities, we are open to suggestions for any charities you may want to raise money for.
What are Division Council Meetings (DCM's) and why should I attend them?
DCM stands for Division Council Meeting. They are organized by our Division’s Lieutenant Governor and are held each month. They typically consist of a division-wide service event followed by a meeting in which each club discusses their recent events or fundraisers. DCMs maintain connections within the division and give club and division updates so that each club is thoroughly informed. It is a good idea to attend DCMs if you are interested in holding a board position in the future, getting more involved in the club, or if you are looking to develop friendships and connections with members of other clubs.
